How to write powerful and emotional headlines that drives traffic
The problem I have with writing headlines is that it needs to a lot. It needs to explain what the article is about, it needs to be good for SEO and I want it to be emotional. Point 1 (about) and 2 (SEO) are quite easy to take care of. But how about creating more emotional headlines, that are not bland?
Not all words are not just words. Certain words give you cues – they trigger you. They can transform an “whatever” feeling into “fuck yeah!”
To give your headlines more impact you need to add a few power words. Now, on the internet you are able to find multiple lists with hundreds of powerwords. The best one so far I found is from the persuasion revolution She has linked the power words to emotions. Plus, she has a great 3-step process:
- Step 1: Determine the desired action you want your prospect to take (like, share, read, subscribe, comment, buy)
- Step 2: Determine the exact emotional state that will drive that action (curious, relaxed, fearful, inspired)
- Step 3: Choose some of the words from this list.
This is already a great starting point.
But you can take it to the next level. CoSchedule has a online tool which enables you to analyse your headline. Give it a go!
The headline for this article got a score of 70. Are you able to beat it? Let me know in the comments.
CoSchedule also found out that more emotional headlines gets shared more often.
So, start infusing your headlines with emotion. You can even un-bland your existing headlines. And it won’t take long for your articles to stand out and drive traffic to your website.
